About HC Rotweiss Wettingen
Rotweiss Wettingen are making their return to the EHL – as well as a return for Swiss clubs – for the first time for a decade and they will be hoping to get their first win in the competition.
It follows a good season for Swiss clubs in European action with Rotweiss finishing second at Easter’s EuroHockey Trophy while Servette got bronze at the Trophy II tournament. It saw the country jump up three places to ninth place in the EHL Rankings Table.
In the past, they have ended up with tough draws. In 2011’s ROUND1, they were undone by HC Rotterdam (11-1) and KHC Dragons (7-0) while they came up against Bloemendaal (7-0) and der Club an der Alster (5-1).
They qualified as Swiss national champions with a 7-1 semi-final win over HC Olten before winning a final shoot-out against GC Zurich. Benjamin Messerli top scored in the competition but he is now taking on an umpiring brief for this tournament.
The side features Fabio Marelli – who switched from Basel – who captained Switzerland this summer alongside Jonas Winkler. Konstantin Klimon is an Austrian international in their line-up while Simone Pagliara has represented Italy.
Club legend Manuel Keller is playing in his last season for the club and is looking to go out on a high.
