About HC ‘s-Hertogenbosch
European women’s club hockey’s most successful side, they won the first EHL Women’s crown having previously won 16 of the last 20 editions of the European Club Cup competition, including a run of 12 successive victories between 2000 and 2011.
In addition to the EHL gold, they won the Hoofdklasse title last year with a final victory over AH&BC Amsterdam and are looking good once again this year, carrying an eight-point lead into the closing weeks of the regular season.
Frédérique Matla has been in outstanding form, scoring 31 times already this season. She is among a wealth of Olympic gold medalists like Margot van Geffen, Lidewij Welten, Laura Nunnink, Sanne Koolen, Josine Koning, Marloes Keetels and Pien Sanders.
There is something of a changing of the guard in process and this could be a dramatic sign-off for some of those leading lights.
Ireen van den Assem moved back to her original club of Tilburg from last year’s panel while it was also the last for coach Raoul Ehren. He had been at the helm for 12 years, winning 14 Hoofdklasse crowns and 12 Euro Club Cups. He was replaced by Marieke Dijkstra.
Since then, Welten has confirmed she will move to SV Kampong, van Geffen will go to HGC and Keetels plans to retire.
