About Western Wildcats HC
Western Wildcats will play in the EHL for a fourth successive season as they continued to rule the roost in Scotland last season, taking the national title once again.
The Auchenhowie side have lost some influential players since last year: striker Jamie Golden has gone to rivals Edinburgh University, fellow Scotland internationalist Tommy Austin goes to English side Surbiton, while Simon Wells returns to Australia.
To balance that, set piece expert Iain McFadden re-joins after a year at Edinburgh University along with youngsters Julius Bosman and Julius van Maanen from the Netherlands, both at Stirling University. They add to the Dutch contingent of whom Luc Hermsen was a strong presence at the KO16 last season.
Fraser Moran will likely be a key talisman once again and he picked up a hat trick already in a big win over Uddingston early in the season and got four against St Andrew’s.
Also among the goals are Rob Harwood and McFadden as they won two of their first three league games.
There is a clutch of players who have been ever-present in their last three EHL campaigns in their long-list panel, namely Adam MacKenzie, Harwood, Fraser Calder, Nikki Homfray, Fraser and Cameron Moran, Gavin Somerville and Andrew McAllister.
They impressed last season when pushing Wimbledon (3-1) and Waterloo Ducks (2-1) close but ultimately came unstuck in both ties. Their last visit to Barcelona did they see them get the best of TJ Plzen Litice before SV Kampong were too strong for them.
They are unbeaten in the Scottish league so far with McFadden and Fraser Moran among the goals but their last game last weekend was postponed due to Storm Amy.
