About SV Kampong

SV Kampong have endured a tricky start to the Dutch Hoofdklasse as they sit in ninth place in the competition with five points from five rounds of matches.

It comes after a summer with a couple of changes to their line-up, most notably in goal where club legend David Harte concluded a glittering spell in Utrecht, switching this year to Uhlenhorst Mülheim.

Spanish number one Luis Calzado has stepped into the pads with South African Estiaan Kriek also moving on having been Harte’s deputy toward the end of last season.

Boet and Jelle Phijffer and Mats Maree have also taken a break from the first team, opening the door for a number of new faces to come in.

Hidde Plantenga joins his brother Kjell in their panel, moving from Voordaan while the other additions are Thies Bakker, Diederik van den Hoek (both Schaerweijde), Koen Meijerink (Nijmegen) and Sander van de Putte (Gooische).

They link up with a panel awash with Dutch internationals, from Lars Balk and corner machine Jip Janssen in defence, to Jonas de Geus, Derck de Vilder and Terrance Pieters in midfield and then Duco Telgenkamp as an attacking inspiration.

The opening day draw with champions AH&BC Amsterdam shows they remain strong this season ahead with Janssen firing in two corners but they were left frustrated in the battle with KZ as they could not break down the opposition defences. Against Bloemendaal, they led three times before succumbing to a late Elian Mazkour strike in a 5-4 result.

In the EHL, they face hosts Real Club de Polo on October 11 in the KO16.
