About Surbiton HC
England’s long-standing champions Surbiton are hoping to push through to the medal rounds this season having finished 5th last season in the EHL Women’s competition.
They have been national champions since 2014, picking up eight successive crowns, and look in good shape once again. They topped both the first and second phases of the English league season and are through to the finals weekend.
This season, the club welcomed back Hannah Martin and Gisele Ansley this season after spells in the Netherlands, but said goodbye to Emily Defroand and Georgie Twigg who decided to step away from hockey after stellar careers at Sugden Road.
Amy Costello, who scored both goals for UHC Hamburg in their 2-0 Euro Hockey League Ranking Cup win against Surbiton in October 2021, is now playing with the London club.
They add to a talented squad which features rising star Darcy Bourne – lethal from corners and play – Izzy Petter and Sophie Hamilton while goalkeeper Sabbie Heesh provides an excellent last line of defence.
Last year, they came unstuck in the FINAL8 to Belgian side Gantoise before defeating Pegasus 2-1.
