About Railway Union HC
Railway Union are back for the second successive Euro Hockey League competition having made history a year ago when they became the first Irish women’s team to win an EHL fixture.
That came in a 1-0 win over MSC Sumchanka and they will look to use that as an inspiration for this campaign.
They do so, however, without Róisín Upton and Sarah Hawkshaw who both moved on to Braxgata this season, leaving them without two hugely experienced assets. Katie Mullan only played a limited role in last season and Lisa McCarthy has also not been involved this term.
In their absence, it means a new space for others to shine and their key players look to be speedster Niamh Gowing, goalkeeper Emma Maloney and sisters Orla and Sarah Patton. Erin Getty is another with international caps who has linked up with the club this season.
Hollaí Quinn, meanwhile, is one to watch – the teenager moved from Corinthian last summer and has already notched up eight EYHL goals and played for the Irish indoor side and the Junior World Cup team this season.
Aisling Utri has also made a big impact since arriving from HC Melbourne, scoring six times in her first three games as Railway sit in the top two of their domestic league.
