About Old Georgians HC
Old Georgians produced the story of the EHL KO16 in Barcelona before Christmas as they eliminated Bloemendaal in a dramatic shoot-out after a 2-2 draw in normal time.
It gives the ambitious English club a third successive trip to the FINAL8 with hopes of adding to the bronze medal they won in 2024.
They do so with a bolstered panel from last season with biggest of their signings being England goalkeeper James Mazarelo who move from arch rivals Surbiton, taking on the goalkeeping role from ex-international George Pinner who has retired.
Henry Croft adds to their formidable attacking line-up following his switch from Beeston while Pablo Usoz is another strong addition, moving from Club de Campo de Madrid.
They join a panel laden with vastly experienced international players with Sam Ward leading the line.
Ian Sloan, Alan Forsyth, David Condon, Chris Griffiths, Phil Roper, Dan Shingles, David Ames, Liam Sanford and Tom Carson have a mountain of caps to drawn upon as does captain James Albery and current Irish skipper Kyle Marshall.
By the winter break, they were in third place in the English league with 25 points out of 33, eight points back from pace-setters Surbiton who pipped them to their national championship last spring.
Since then, they finished in fifth place in the men’s EuroHockey Indoor Club Cup in Sant Cugat, the best result for an English side since 2016 in that competition.
