About HC Rotweiss Wettingen
Rotweiss Wettingen are hoping they can land their first EHL victory next week having narrowly missed out on a maiden success last October in Hamburg.
Back then, they nicked a late 2-2 draw against Lille but missed out in a shoot-out; this time, they will face Austrian side Post SV who are making their debut on the main EHL stage having played in the Ranking Cup two years ago.
For the Swiss champs, there is plenty of change since last season. New head coach Nicolas Steffen played in the EHL in 2009 and 2011 and he will be assisted by another club legend, Manuel Keller, who retired during the summer due to an injured knee.
He played in each of Rotweiss’s EHL campaigns to date and also earned 157 caps for Switzerland, the fourth most in the country’s history.
On the field, the current Swiss captain Fabio Marelli (77 caps) says “nothing is impossible” about their chances this week and he brings the experience along with the brothers Yves (71) and Michel Morard (51).
Jonathan Kleschin has arrived from Basler HC while Alessio Brunold, Tim Seidel and Philip Seidel join the senior panel from the youth section. Moving on, though, Keller, Marco Michel who also retired and Jonas Winkler – Winkler was a key figure last year, scoring one of the goals of the KO16. His performances might have helped earn him a move to UHC Hamburg.
They have started their domestic season well, beating Servette and Grasshoppers Zurich to have a 100% record thus far.
