About HC Olten

HC Olten will become the latest EHL club when they hit the turf in Barcelona to take on Old Georgians on October 11th having won the Swiss championship last season.

Back then, they defied the odds to win the playoffs in Luzerne having finished the regular season in fourth place.

Since then, there have said a fond farewell to coach Chris Elste who steps away after a transformative three years in the role. He took on the side in 2022 with a side in midtable and needing to bed in young players into the line-up, a group around whom he reshaped the side.

They rose to become both the indoor and outdoor Swiss champions earlier this year. His assistant Mirko Hug has taken over the training of the side while Carsten Kaltenbrunn brings coaching experience and diplomas from his time in Germany.

The side has a healthy international outlook with Lukas Hengartner, Nico Muggli, Lorenz Gassner and Maurizio Ribaudo all part of the Swiss team who played in EuroHockey Championship II in Portugal this summer.

On the goalkeeping front, Laurent Rogger was named the goalkeeper of the tournament at the 2022 EuroHockey Indoor Championships in Hamburg and he will need to be a key figure. His predecessor in the pads Stephan Müller retired ahead of the new season.

They become the fourth Swiss club to play in the EHL after Rotweiss Wettingen, Luzerner SC and Grasshoppers SC.

Their start to the domestic league has been mixed, defeating Black Boys and Servette but falling to Rotweiss and Luzerner SC to sit in fourth place after six matches.
