About Crefelder HTC
Crefelder HTC are making their first appearance in the EHL since the inaugural edition of the men’s competition way back in 2007. Back then, they were eliminated in unique fashion from the group stages via a shoot-out after draws against both Reading and Saint Germain.
They qualified as the surprise champions in Germany last season, inspired by club legend Niklas Wellen and they will look to his talents along with Australian stars Tim Howard and Lachlan Sharp to lead the way in Den Bosch.
They had a tricky first half of the season, ending in ninth place but were one of the league’s top scorers with 40 goals from their 12 fixtures; Wellen grabbed 11 of them before Christmas while indoor international Sten Brandenstein weighed in with a useful six. He joined this season from Stuttgarter Kickers.
He is among a quartet of signings who arrived this season including Hans Neethling (Gladbacher THC), Anton Zickler (Düsseldorfer HC) and Mathis Koppnehöfer (Mannheimer HC).
They have, however, missed key players like goalkeeper Joshua Onyekwue Nnaji who will be in Den Bosch with Hamburger Polo Club and Linus Michler who is now with Klein Zwitserland.
Julius Hayner, meanwhile, has been in and around the German Pro league panel.
The side is coached by Johannes Schmitz who played and coached in the EHL with Uhlenhorst Mülheim with support from Irish legend Ronan Gormley.
