About Club Campo de Madrid
Eduardo Aguilar’s side put in a superb performance at the EHL KO16 in Barcelona to reach the last eight of the men’s competition for a sixth time, looking to medal for the first time since their 2011 silver.
They got by the challenge of CAM92 before eliminating Royal Léopold in a dramatic shoot-out. An interesting sideline to that tie saw Belgian player Nicolas Poncelet lining out for Campo against his former club.
He is one of two from Belgium to join the club along with Jeremy Wilbers, adding to a smattering of foreign input with Dutchman Thijs van Pelt and German player Daniel Schellinger featuring this season.
It adds an extra flavour to a panel packed with Spanish international talent from experienced striker Alvaro Iglesias to diminutive midfielder Rafael Vilallonga to goalkeeper Rafa Revilla while Alvaro Portugal and Ricardo Sanchez are key figures.
Campo finished the first half of the season in second place in the Spanish league, three points behind Real Club de Polo, and right in contention to make an impact.
