Match report

Club de Campo de Madrid made it two EHL Women’s in three seasons with a controlled victory over city rivals Sanse Complutense with goals from Sara Barrios and Alicia Magaz.

It was a ferocious, passionate battle between two clubs who know each other well and the underdogs Complu nearly went in front when Pilar Campoy’s touch went just across the face of goal.

But Campo always looked to have the greater cutting edge and they took the lead in the 18th minute.Barrios snatched it with a beautiful piece of aerial skill; she caught a high rebound in mid-air off the pads of Lucia Caruso following Bea Perez’s strong run. It was an awkward height but she brilliantly batted it back first time for 1-0.

Paula Jimenez brilliantly saved another off the line, back-tracking to keep out Bea Perez’s shot beyond the goalkeeper.

Maria Lopez’s corner smash was batted away, too, by Caruso who had a fine game, keeping just a single goal in the difference.

The clinching goal came with eight minutes to go when Blanca Perez was knocked off course on her way to goal. It led to a stroke which Alicia Magaz calmly pushed into the left corner.

Campo now await their GRAND FINAL opponent on Monday with either Den Bosch or Düsseldorf lying in wait while Complutense will look to win a first medal on this stage in the BRONZE MATCH.
