Match report
Two goals in the first 40 seconds propelled Gantoise to a fifth place finish in the ABN AMRO EHL Women’s competition, beating Irish side Pembroke.
It took just 22 seconds for Emilie Sinia to be found in space in the circle and she drove a powerful shot through a group of players, taking a deflection on the way past Aoife Glennon.
And 18 seconds later Alix Gerniers was driving in a low backhand from a quick set of turnovers for a dream start.
After that, the Belgian side held most of the play but Pembroke defended well to limit any further damage through Q2 and Q3 but Ambre Ballenghien’s low corner flick put them out of sight.
Pembroke got one back in the closing minutes when Rachel O’Brien finished off a counter-attack but Ballenghien added one more from a corner with 41 seconds left.
