SV Arminen got the result they needed to advance to the EHL FINALS next Easter for the first time since 2022 as they defeated Lille MHC 2-1, eliminating Edinburgh University in the process.
It saw them jump ahead of the students as first half goals from Max Kelner and Tobias Terler made the difference.
Lille had started the stronger and deservedly went ahead in the 17th minute when Koji Yamasaki’s driving run got them into the danger zone. There, Yvan Hannoir picked out Pierre Piot who slammed the ball in from closed range.
But the game was turned on its head before half-time with Kelner equalising in the 21st minute from a smart corner switch to the left from where he tucked the ball into the right corner.
And, in the 26th minute, Terler went solo from a quickly taken free, weaving into the circle and flicking the ball into the roof of the net. The action was sent to video but the goal stood and Arminen – needing a draw to advance – had a precious lead.
Lille threw everything at them in the second half but could not find a way through with goalkeeper Clemens Philipp making a number of world class saves for Arminen ot keep them ahead.
