Golden moment for Edinburgh on EHL debut

A Jamie Golden-inspired Edinburgh University produced an immaculate performance to defeat Lille MHC 4-0, a dream debut for the Scottish club in the EHL.

They did survive a first minute scare, needing to save off the line after the first Lille attack hit the post and rolled across goal.

But, from there, Edinburgh were in the ascendancy from the 11th minute when Oliver Wilson was impeded, giving Golden the chance to score from the penalty spot.

He then fired in a second in Q2 from a powerful corner, a 2-0 lead which they carried into half-time.

The French side came more into the contest in the second half, holding more of the ball, but they looked susceptible to counter-attacks with two Scottish warning shots frantically kept out.

And the students did get their third from another corner with Golden’s power doing enough to beat José-Inaki Lafuente.

Golden crowned his personal performance with the pass of the game, an amazing diagonal overhead which found Tom Cahalin racing clear on the left. He applied a reverse-stick finish for a memorable fourth goal.
