Surbiton secure fifth spot in EHL Men

Surbiton secured fifth spot in EHL Men as their excellent shoot-out series saw them overcome Club de Campo de Madrid in their Ranking Match.

They led twice in normal time but eventually had to go the full distance against their Spanish rivals in an even contest.

Luke Taylor’s drag-flick made it 1-0 before Ricardo Sanchez’s virtuoso one-handed shot tied the game up at half-time.

Barry Middleton put his side back in front when he finished off a swift counter-attack; incredibly, it was his first EHL goal since May 2008, a full 6,188 days in between.

Campo, though, got back on terms when Lucas Garcia rebounded a corner for 2-2. In the shoot-out, James Mazarelo saved in the first two rounds while Struan Walker, Stu Rushmere and Rob Farrington all scored for a 3-2 success.
