Scandura secures memorable fifth spot for Polo

Real Club de Polo’s women earned their first ever EHL Women’s win as they fought back to defeat Surbiton in a shoot-out.

The only goal of the first half came when Darcy Bourne provided an innovative backhand scoop into the path of Alice Wills who – baseball-style – swiped the ball into the goal.

From there, the contest went to and fro with Polo eventually getting back on terms with just under 10 minutes to go; Alina Piccardo got it with a direct push into the backboard.

Down the closing stretch, Scandura made a couple of sublime saves to keep her side ahead, sending the game to a shoot-out.

There, Surbiton built an initial 2-0 lead but were denied every time after that, allowing Patricia Alvarez to net twice in succession to win it 3-2.
