Old Georgians won back-to-back English indoor Super 6s title as they blew Wimbledon away in the final with a 7-4 success.
Playing a ruthless counter-attack style, they tore into a 6-0 lead and while the 2023 champions fought back in the closing quarter, OGs proved too strong.
It owed much to the brilliance of Dan Shingles racing out from left back and also an immaculate goalkeeping performance from George Pinner.
Shingles set the ball rolling, racing out from his own circle with the ball and then ending up with the ball to apply a great finish in the second minute. Chris Griffiths’ penalty corner and a solo Shingles effort built a 3-0 half-time lead.
Tom and Ed Carson added two more before Griffiths made it six with 11 minutes to go.
Spanish player Antonio Sanz del Campo was a livewire through the final quarter before Sam Hooper’s stroke and a Liam Ansell corner cut the gap back to 6-3.
But they could not build further on that with Tom Carson copper-fastening the result in the last minute, rendering Sanz del Campo’s last second goal academic.
It gives the English club a big boost ahead of their debut on the EuroHockey indoor scene in February when they travel to Budapest for the Trophy competition.
After that, they return outdoors with a Euro Hockey League FINAL8 where they will face Rotterdam on 5.45pm CET on April 18.
