EHL debutants Grasshopper Club Zurich picked up an important early season victory over Rotweiss Wettingen as they build up for their big date in London in October.
In a repeat of the Swiss national final from last season, Grasshoppers picked off a 2-0 result away from home with goals from Artur von Ruffer and Timon Unger.
It added to an opening day 4-3 win over HC Olten – also on the road – in which Lars Bamberg, Unger and a double from Lukas Müller made the difference.
Theirs Is a side with a strong Latin American flavour with Argentinean Franco Romani on the coaching staff as are his compatriots Lucas Harte and Nahuel Salis on the playing side.
Craig Turner from New Zealand and Benjamin Eddy from England, Austrian goalkeeper Fabian Starsich, along with a number of Germany players, add to the cosmopolitan nature of their panel.
Swiss international Fabio Landtwing (pictured above by Alfred Waelti) shone in Grasshoppers last European voyage in the EuroHockey Club Trophy I in 2023 when they finished in fourth place, scoring six times in four games while Harte also grabbed four goals.
Their first EHL challenge sees them play Lille MHC from France on Thursday, October 3rd.
