Gantoise are already assured of a Belgian women’s championship playoff place with five games to go and moved within two wins of guaranteeing top spot from the regulation playoff place.
They won 2-0 against Braxgata – second place at the start of the day – to move 10 points clear and put further daylight between themselves and the chasers.
Ambre Ballenghien’s deflection from Alix Gerniers’ cross went into the top corner to break the deadlock in the 31st minute.
Pauline De Ryck kept it that way with a couple of huge saves early in the second half before they made the points safe via Astrid Bonami, finishing off good work from Ballenghien.
On the men’s side, it was draws all round for the top four with Royal Léopold held 1-1 against third placed Waterloo Ducks while Gantoise (second) and Braxgata played out a 4-4 classic encounter.
Léo remain eight points clear of Gantoise as a result and need just four points from the remaining five rounds to assure themselves of a playoff spot.
They also welcomed back goalkeeper Romain Henet after injury but they are looking to rediscover their pre-Christmas form. In 2024, they have earned five points out of 12.
Dragons are the form side in the competition with four wins from four since the turn of the year with their 3-1 away win over Daring lifting them to sixth spot and within one point of the playoff places.
