Gantoise’s men and women took another set of steps toward their respective goals with joyous home wins as part of a big Sunday at their club.
The women struck five times in the second half to defeat Pingouin 5-0 and expand their lead to 11 points at the head of the Ion Hockey League.
After a scoreless first half, Alix Gerniers fired home a backhand shot for 1-0 in the 48th minute. She then deflected home the second from a corner move before Astrid Bonami made it 3-0.
Bonami also tipped in the fourth before Ambre Ballenghien completed the win. They followed the game by welcoming their club’s successful indoor Under-16 and 14 girls teams onto the field to take the plaudits from the crowd.
The men duly maintained their second spot in their league in the race for the playoff places as they defeated Daring 3-1.
Charles Masson’s corner goal put them infront and an Emile Esquelin goal put them 2-0 up. Antoine Kina made the game fully safe in the 61st minute.
They also enjoyed a meet and greet with young member of the club as the G-force fan group cheered them on through a memorable day.
It also meant they closed the gap a little bit to Royal Léopold who were defeated 2-0 by KHC Dragons with Max Luyten and Nicolas Della Torre getting the goals.
Léo now hold an eight-point lead in the table over Gantoise on 27 points. Oreé are one back from them in third, WatDucks are on 25 while Herakles, Braxgata and Racing are all on 24.
