Old Georgians land Euro spot for 2024/25 season

Old Georgians landed a European spot for next season on a dramatic Saturday night as their helter-skelter 6-5 win over Southgate ensured they win the Top 6 phase of the English men’s competition.

It was a crazy game of back and forth but a second half scoring spree from Tom Carson turned the game in the OGs favour.

Southgate built a 3-1 half-time lead only to fall behind 4-3 early in the fourth quarter. Jack Middleton and Teague Marcano, though, swung the pendulum back in favour of Southgate to go 5-4 ahead with less than five minutes to go.

Old Georgians summoned another last push, however, to score in the 68th and 70th minutes with Tom Carson ending with four to his name.

In tandem with Wimbledon’s 4-2 win over Surbiton, the result lifted Ashley Jackson’s side to 14 wins out of 15, six points clear of both Wimbledon and Surbiton with one round of games to go in this phase.

It is enough to take the first European spot on offer this term with the overall championship winners taking the other one.

On the women’s side, East Grinstead were 5-1 winners over Hampstead & Westminster to continue their winning ways with two goals from Pippa Lock and one each from Sophie Bray, Grace Balsdon and Olivia Breed.

It keeps them in second place but Surbiton have the laurels in their top six section with an eight-point lead to their name with one fixture remaining.
