East Grinstead and Old Georgians both continued their winning starts to 2024 in the top six phase of the English leagues, both running up five goals each.
For EG’s women, they are now up to second in their table thanks to a 5-0 win away to Bowdon on Saturday. After a scoreless first quarter, Pippa Lock got them rolling and she doubled the lead as well.
A powerful backhand from Lily Walker, a fourth from Ellie Rayer and a closing effort from Tess Howard ensured a strong victory.
It was their third successive win of the top six phase, including against leaders Surbiton, while conceding just once in those three games. The result lifts them above Reading into second place on goal difference.
For Old Georgians, they ran up a 5-3 win over Hampstead & Westminster to remain in pole position in the men’s top six contest. This tie was scoreless for half an hour before exploding into life.
Tom Carson scored a corner to edge OGs in front before Matt Guise-Brown equalised in Q3, the first of an eventual hat trick.
But the next four goals all went the way of Old Georgians to run away with the results with Alan Forsyth netting two and Matthew Brown and Elliott Messem also chipped in. Guise-Brown ripped in two more corners in the last two minutes.
It means Ashley Jackson’s side continue to hold a three-point lead over Surbiton at the head of this phase with two rounds of games remaining with Southgate and Wimbledon to visit St George’s College.
