Alster’s women lead the way in Germany

Der Club an der Alster hold the best record in Germany going into their extended winter break with 32 points from a potential 33 on offer thus far.

It has them four points better off than last year’s champions and Pool A leaders Mannheimer HC and nine points better off than Rot-Weiss Köln who are second in Pool B behind Alster.

They completed the first half of the season with a lively 5-3 away win over Club Raffelberg with Hanna Granitzki setting them on their way and they were 4-0 up by the 27th minute.

Juliane Grashoff got two of them with Emily Wolbers also on the mark. Anneke Maertens and Giulia Funkel kept Raffelberg interested with goals either side of a Linda Cobano effort but Alster were always in the clear.

Granitzki is their top scorer with five to date but they have mostly been shared around with Viki Huse on four.

For EHL-bound Mannheim, they closed out their series with a 3-2 win over Berliner HC thanks to a 59th minute Lucia Jiménez goal, backing up earlier efforts from Agustina Habif and Lucina von der Heyde.

They are now on hiatus until March 23 when they go to Munich before they get into EHL mode a week later at Easter.
