Jakob Kastner’s shoot-out heroics saw Post SV advance to the KO8 for the first time as they eventually overcame Rotweiss Wettingen after a 1-1 draw in normal time.
In an incredibly even contest, Kastner also made a number of good stops during normal time, particularly from corner second phase play.
Rotweiss, meanwhile, were frustrated not to make more of their general edge in play in the first half but were also thankful for a Fabio Marelli save off the line early in the second half to keep it level.
That was until the 48th minute when Maximilian Scholz ripped a shot into the bottom right corner with a drag-flick. Rotweiss threw everything into their comeback bid but thought their chances were gone when Robin Aebi contrived to turn in a goalbound shot with his shin with three minutes left.
But they got their goal with 67 seconds on the clock with the same man, Aebi, atoning for his error with a close range touch from Max Fischbach’s push across goal.
It forced a shoot-out in which Mateusz Nyckowiak got the Austrian side in front; Yves Morard equalised in round two before the goalkeepers took over. In round four, Paul Drusany kept his composure to flick into the top of the goal.
Kastner kept out one more shoot-out to win this phase 2-1 and advance to a date with either Royal Léopold and Harvestehuder THC.
