Waterloo overcome huge Bann challenge

Waterloo Ducks overcame a massive tussle with Banbridge to reach the KO8, coming back from a deficit twice and surviving a penalty stroke to win 5-3.

Louis Rowe’s corner push took a defensive deflection for a third minute lead but the returning Victor Charlet swept home an equaliser before the end of Q1.

But Johnny McKee brilliantly restored the lead before half-time when he got beyond the last defender and while he was driven wide, he turned on his reverse and cracked home a shot for 2-1.

They had the chance for another early in the second half but Jake Rowe’s stroke was blocked by Simon Vandenbroucke and it was the pivotal moment in the match. The WatDucks scored three times in the next minute to swing the momentum.

Jeremy Wilbers got a brilliant near post touch to level the game at 2-2; Louis Depelsenaire then got an even better one from a Tommy Willems delivery into the D to go in front for the first time.

Charlet then put daylight between the teams for the first time but a second corner goal from Louis Rowe with 13 minutes to go had the game back in the balance.

That was until four minutes from the end when Depelsenaire forced in at the near post after long Charlet overhead created the chance.
