Winners of the Dutch Hoofdklasse regular season, SV Kampong are hoping they can capture the Barcelona spirit of 2016 when they came to the city to win the EHL crown.
There remain plenty of connections to that side with goalkeeper David Harte, Jip Janssen, Lars Balk, Sander de Wijn and Boet Phijffer all part of the line-up once again.
They are joined by a wealth of Dutch top level talent with Jonas de Geus getting things motoring in midfield, Terrance Pieters in the forward line and Derck de Vilder another crucial element.
And there is real stardust provided by Duco Telgenkamp who broke onto the international scene this summer, top-scoring in the EuroHockey Championship in what was his first major tournament – he now has 11 goals in 11 international appearances.
Their two additions this summer were Mats Marree from Schaerweijde and Teun Kropholler after a spell in Italy while a trio moved on from their panel – Deegan Huisman (Hurley), Ties Ceulemans and Mats Schooleman (Laren).
Kampong’s title defence did get off to a slow start with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Klein Zwitserland but they bounced back well last Sunday to defeat Schaerweijde 7-0 with Pieters, Janssen and Jelle Phijffer all scoring twice.
They now look to take that momentum into their huge showdown with Bloemendaal on Saturday in the KO16 with one of the major contenders for the title looking to keep alive their chances at another title.
