Club de Campo de Madrid completed their perfect season as they added the MGS Spanish title to the Copa del Rey and the regular league title as three first half goals got them on their way in the final against Real Club de Polo.
José María Chefo Basterra was the star man over the weekend; he scored three times in the semi-final win over Club Egara and then got the first two in the final against Polo from corners.
They came in the first quarter for a 2-0 advantage and the thirdfor Pablo Usoz’s team occurred with four minutes to go before the break with Alejandro Morales getting it.
Polo’s game improvedin the second half and they got a lifeline in the 57th minute through Iñaki Zaldúa and they were in range when Guillermo Fortuño made the inroads for Marc Reyné to cut the gap to 3-2.
But Campo held on for the victory and the title, adding the final cherry to an incredible season in which they only lost once.
Álvaro Iglesias said of the success: “A game in which I had many different feelings. From being very comfortable and calm with everything going perfectly to suffering like a dog!
“We have trained every day like a champion team. Looking ahead to next year, we hope to keep as many players as possible and all the staff.”
