Campo win Spanish men’s league title

Club de Campo de Madrid landed confirmed top spot in the Spanish men’s Liga MGS regular season to add to the Copa del Rey they already have in the bag.

They did it with a 6-0 win over CD Terrassa with Jose Basterra netting a hat trick; the result keeps them unbeaten and five points clear of Atlètic Terrassa with one round of fixtures to go.

Atlètic Terrassa are confirmed in the final four where they will meet Real Club de Polo and both won well at the weekend; for Atlèti, they saw off local rivals Club Egara 4-0 while Polo beat Jolaseta.

The Egara defeat saw them drop out of the top four with Sanse Complutense taking their place thanks to a 3-1 away win over FC Barcelona.

It means the last playoff spot goes down to next week’s battle between Sanse and Egara in Madrid with the hosts needing a draw to secure that place.

On the women’s side, the league will be decided on the final day of the campaign with Campo in pole position following a pivotal weekend. They jumped back ahead of Junior FC thanks to a 4-0 away win over Pozuelo while the Sant Cugat side lost 1-0 against Sanse.

A win for Campo at home against 11th place CD Terrassa will see them win this phase of the season.

The final day will also see a big tussle in the top four battle; Polo are on 45, Egara on 44 and UD Taburiente on 43 in third, fourth and fifth, respectively. They key fixture sees Polo host Taburiente.
