Royal Léopold secured a place in the EHL Men’s competition next season with an 8-1 win over KHC Leuven in which Tom Boon scored six times.
The result means they will top the regular season table in the Ion Hockey League which brings with it one of the three EHL tickets for Belgian men’s clubs next season.
It came just a couple of days before Léo confirmed Boon confirmed he is extending his contract with the club until 2027. His sixth goal was his 50th of the season, his most in a single season on the club front.
Leuven started well, taking the lead from a ninth minute penalty corner, but Boon fired home a first half hat trick to add to one each from Tom Degroote and Dylan Englebert to build a 5-1 lead before the break.
The result, in tandem with KHC Dragons 3-2 defeat to Orée, puts Léo in an unassailable position at the top.
Dragons are confirmed in the playoff places with Gantoise also destined for an extended season after their 4-2 win over Waterloo Ducks. Waterloo have a four-point buffer over Racing who could only draw 2-2 with Daring.
