Polo edge out Campo in Copa de la reina final

Real Club de Polo conquered against Club de Campo in the final of Spanish women’s Copa de la Reina with a 2-0 final success in Madrid.

They took the lead in the 13th minute though Paula Ortiz from a corner and then eventually closed out the win in the closing minutes when Florencia Amundson finished into an empty net after a move from the back made it all the way to her.

Polo coach Jordi Alastrue said of the success: “We are two teams that know each other a lot. Edu [Aguilar], the coach of the Club de Campo, showed us something different to us tactically but, so did we.

“It has been like a game of chess. The corner we scored was decisive and that gave us clarity in our game. We suffered in the second part but we have been preparing to suffer for a month and a half.

“In this cup run, we have reflected the work of this month and a half. The players have trusted the process and they have executed it perfectly.”

Campo – who will play in next month’s EHL – had made it through Saturday’s semi-final with a 2-1 win over Real Socieded while Polo won 3-0 against Atlètic Terrassa having previously beaten table-topping UD Taburiente 4-1.
