Campo hosts huge cup weekend in madrid

All Spanish eyes this weekend turn to Club de Campo’s home in Madrid as the Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina plays out over three helter-skelter days of knock-out action.

The event is already close to selling out and has big match-ups right from the start as the top eight men’s and women’s teams play off for the famous titles.

On the men’s side, Atlètic Terrassa and Real Club de Polo have been drawn to face each other in a classic opening fixture with an 11am start (CET), setting the tone for the weekend.

Club Egara meet Junior FC in game two before Pablo Usoz’s undefeated Campo take on CD Terrassa in the third quarter final. The day concludes on the men’s side with Sanse Complutense up against FC Barcelona.

On the women’s side, the game between Junior FC – fourth in the league – against Club de Campo, third, is the most anticipated of the first phase of the competition.

Another big battle is Real Club de Polo against leaders UD Taburiente at 1pm (CET) while the EHL side Sanse Complutense are in the first match at 11.15 (CET). The derby between Atlètic Terrassa and Club Egara is also an enticing prospect.

After Friday’s quarter-finals, Saturday sees the semi-finals and then Sunday is finals day.
