Club de Campo’s women picked up an emphatic 4-1 win over Sardinero to close the gap at the top of the Spanish Iberdrola Liga to just two points as the competition returned following the winter break
Sara Barrios’s deflection put them in front in the second minute and they were out of range when Amparo Gil (23′) and María López, from a penalty corner (32′), put the Madrid women 3-0 ahead.
Julieta Grenon replied but once again Club de Campo bounced back with Alejandra Torres-Quevedo scoring to complete the win.
They are now two points behind UD Taburiente on 28 points – along with Junior FC and Club Egara – with all three of the chasing teams having a game in hand on the top side who drew 0-0 with RS Tenis.
The other EHL side in action, Sanse Complutense, drew 2-2 with Real Club de Polo in San Sebastián de los Reyes, 2-2.
In the first quarter, Ignacio Rodrigo’s men took the lead, with a goal from María Pilar (8′). In the second, Liv María tied for Polo (24′). Patricia Álvarez put the Barcelona side ahead in the 51st minute but María Emilia García, from Sanse, netted right at the start of the fourth quarter.
Sanse remain in eight place as a result.
