FINAL8 draw produces classic fixtures

The ABN AMRO EHL FINAL8 draw threw up a series of thrilling battles for next Easter’s showcase event which will be hosted by Pinoké from April 6th to 10th, 2023.

In the women’s competition, first out of the hat was a Dutch blockbuster with 17-time European club champions HC ’s-Hertogenbosch against their Dutch rivals SCHC in a repeat of their national championship final last season.

The winner of that tie will face the winner of Germany’s Düsseldorfer HC and England’s Surbiton – national winners since 2014 – in another keenly contested pairing.

On the other side of the draw, Gantoise are hoping for a second successive EHL FINAL4 appearance. They compete against 2021 silver medalists Club de Campo de Madrid.

The victor from that contest will meet a newcomer to the EHL as first-timers Sanse Complutense from Spain and Pembroke from Ireland were drawn to play each other.

On the men’s side, reigning EHL champions HC Bloemendaal will come up against 2014 winner Harvestehuder THC.

Waiting for them in the next round will be either Royal Racing Club de Bruxelles – who qualified for the EHL courtesy of their first Belgian title in 81 years last season – or host club Pinoké.

Captain Jannis van Hattum is thrilled at the prospect: “It’s personally a dream come true to be playing the FINAL8 with Pinoké. Playing a foreign team is extra special for us, because it’s a completely new experience.

“It being with a group of players that has been loyal to the club for so many years is something to be proud of. Hosting the event itself just rounds if off!”

The third section of the draw features Spanish champions Atlètic Terrassa, the silver medalists in 2021 and one of the competition’s most regular features. They are meeting Gantoise who have both men’s and women’s teams taking part in the weekend.

Whoever advances to the FINAL4 will meet German opposition with Rot-Weiss Köln and Hamburger Polo Club drawn to meet each other.
