Grange lead Western for Scottish winter break

Grange hold top spot into the Scottish men’s Premiership’s winter break after seeing off bottom side FMGM Monarchs 5-2 on Tayside.

Joe Waterston and Fraser Heigh put the Edinburgh side two up before Ross Glashan pulled one back at a penalty corner just before the interval. 

Duncan Riddell, Heigh again and Aussie Dylan Bean added three more to the Grange tally in the second half before Glashan scored again for Monarchs.

Grange manager Martin Shepherdson said at the end of the game: “Their keeper made a lot of good saves and we wasted a lot of chances which was our own fault, but we were always in control.”

Grange stay a point ahead of champions Western Wildcats despite their twelve goal mauling of Kelburne. The league’s top scorer Andrew McConnell was again on target with another five to add to his impressive tally while there were two each for Jack Mackenzie, Rob Harwood, Fraser Moran and Jonny Christie got the other.

On the women’s side, Watsonians certainly took their chances with an 11-0 win over bottom side Dundee Wanderers, Scotland striker Sarah Jamieson got four, Milly Berndes-Cade two while the other came from Bex Jones, Katie and Ellie Stott, Ellie Wilson and D`Arcy Littlefield. Keith Smith`s charges remain five points ahead at the top.

Second placed Edinburgh University were also convincing winners over Hillhead with goals from Georgia Jones, Sophie Hinds, Louise Campbell, Katie Robertson and Amy Brodie.
