Irish champions Lisnagarvey got their EY Hockey League campaign up and running with a comfortable 4-0 win over newly promoted Cookstown to kickstart their EHL Men’s KO16 build-up.

Lisnagarvey will face Wimbledon next week in the KO16 as they look to back up a spectacular 2021/22 season. Last term, they won five trophies in total, landing the EYHL, the EY Champions Trophy, Ulster Kirk Cup, the Irish Senior Cup and the EuroHockey Club Challenge I.
They got up and running in the 10th minute with a penalty corner hammered home by Andrew Williamson. Cookstown fought hard for the next 30 minutes but could not find the opposite goal and, in the third quarter, Garvey number 19 Oliver Kidd with a great touch made it 2-0.
Matthew Aughey finished the match off with two goals in the 48th and 56th minute to see Garvey start on the front foot.
Elsewhere, runners-up Three Rock Rovers survived a late Instonians comeback to win 4-3. It was 4-0 with seven minutes to go before Inst netted three times.
Shane O’Donoghue scored twice as Glenanne beat Annadale 2-1 while YMCA and Banbridge drew 4-4 with Olympian Tevin Kok scoring twice on debut for the former side while Jonny McKee got a Bann hat trick.
