Hamburger Polo Club and Harvestehuder THC were both on the winning trail last weekend to get their German men’s Bundesliga campaigns on track after losses on opening weekend.
For Polo, they did it the hard way to come back from 2-0 down to see off Düsseldorf who led courtesy of goals from Benjamin Hamish Edwards and Lasse Hartkopf going into the final quarter.
But a brilliant run with goals from Leon Thörnblom, captain Luca Müller, Thörnblom again and Constantin Staib made it 4-2 in the end.
For HTHC, they ran up two wins to lift them to six points with wins in Berlin and Munich. First off, they won a 5-4 thriller against Berliner HC where they looked comfortable in the first quarter with goals from Moritz Frey, Michael Körper and Luis Holste for a 3-0 lead.
Paul Dösch reduced the gap a little before half-time but a Körper stroke made it 4-1. Adrian Lehmann-Richter’s corner reduced the deficit with 10 minutes to go but a hat trick goal from Körper seemingly put his side out of reach at 5-2.
Quick strikes from Dösch and veteran Martin Zwicker made for an exciting finish but HTHC held on for a first win of the season.
A day later, Körper was in the match winner once again as he made it 2-1 against Munich SC after Anton Pöhling and Philip Holzmüller exchanged goals.
Overall, Crefelder HTC are the only side with three wins from three so far to sit top of Section A of the competition.
Next week sees Polo up against EHL hosts Harvestehuder THC at 2pm on Saturday.
