Polo and HTHC fall on day one in Germany

Hamburger Polo Club and Harvestehuder THC both fell on day one of the German men’s Bundesliga to start their campaigns on a slow note.

For Polo, dispute a hat trick from Kane Russell, they were undone 7-3 by city rivals UHC Hamburg with strikes from Cameron Golden, Florian Sperling, Henri Schmid, Michel Struthoff and a triple from Benedikt Schwarzhaupt.

Der Club an der Alster also won in a Hamburg derby as they edged out EHL Men’s KO16 host side Harvestehuder THC 3-1 in the Volvo ERB top game of the week.

Dieter Linnekogel put his team in front with a follow-up shot after a penalty corner but Michael Körper tied the game in the 37th minute with a powerful low shot.

But a deflected shot from Maximilian Schnepel found its way in to put Alster up again and they completed the win when Tom Stroink finished into an open goal in the final minute.

Reigning champions Rot-Weiss Köln beat TSV Mannheim 1-0 while Mannheimer HC were 5-1 victors at Dusselforf. Berliner HC beat Uhlenhorst Mülheim 3-2. 

On the women’s side, Düsseldorf won 4-1 against Berlin with Clara Ycart sending them on their way before Lisa Nolte added to the lead. 

Harvestehuder THC won 4-2 at home against Munich SC; Rot-Weiss Köln were too strong for Bremen (4-1) while UHC Hamburg defeated TSV Mannheim. 

Der Club an der Alster won 3-0 away to Uhlenhorst Mülheim while Mannheimer HC’s 5-1 success as Grossflottbeker THGC was the biggest scoreline of the weekend.

On Sunday, Alster made it two wins from two when they beat TSV Mannheim 4-1.
