Dragons won the big opening day fixture in the Belgian men’s Honor Division as they beat Gantoise 3-1.

The Brasschaat club missed out on the playoffs last April for the first time in over a decade with Gantoise going on to reach the national final.

But it was Dragons who recorded this impressive victory. Thomas Crols, supplied by Simon Gougnard, opened the scoring for the visitors in the 31st minute but François Goyet levelled in the third quarter.

Dragons, however, finished stronger with goals from Nicolas Della Torre and Conor Harte from corners to give new coach Craig Fulton an important three points.

Reigning champions Racing got up and running with a 6-0 win over Uccle while Leopold defeated Old Club 9-2.

On the women’s side, Gantoise won a 4-3 thriller in a repeat of the 2022 national final against Dragons with Lara Oviedo scoring the winning corner in the 56th minute.

She had opened the scoring too with French star Delfina Gaspari making it 2-0. Stephanie de Groof and Valerie Magis equalised before Berta Bonastre – on debut – and Magis traded further goals to make it 3-3.
