Western Wildcats took the men`s Premiership title for the first time since 2004 following a 7-2 win over Grange at Auchenhowie

They now have an unassailable eight point lead and retain their season`s unbeaten record.

Western`s coach Vishal Marwaha said: “It was a grand occasion in front of our biggest crowd of the season, I thought we just edged the first half, but Grange put us under pressure in the third quarter, then we played our natural game in the final quarter and the goals flowed.”

On the title he remarked: “This has been a fantastic achievement, this season we have been far more consistent and we have risen to the occasion in every game.

“There are always key moments in all games when you have to deliver. In the past, we have lost some of these games, but this season we have always responded and come away with a win in the end.

“This was a fantastic team performance, the whole squad has contributed to this success and all deserve to celebrate the occasion, not just those who played today but the full squad.”

It was tight all the way up to the third quarter when it was 2-2 with Grange having the chance to take the lead from a series of four corners.

But they could not take full advantage from them and Western took advantage, producing a whirlwind final quarter with five goals.
