EHL Board confirms format for 2022/23 edition

The Euro Hockey League board is pleased to announce the format for the 2022/23 edition of the EHL, the world’s premier club hockey competition.

It will consist of two knock-out tournaments on the Men’s side and one knock-out tournament on the Women’s side:

  • EHL KO16 Men (teams ranked 5-20),  September 30th to October 2nd, 2022
  • EHL FINAL8 Men Easter 2023
  • EHL FINAL8 Women Easter 2023

The season will begin in late September 2022 with a men’s KO16 event for teams ranked fifth to 20th according to the EHL Ranking List. 

This will be followed by the EHL FINAL8 for men and women which will be held together at Easter 2023. For each event, the venue is to be confirmed.

The format is in line with the last season before the impact of the Covid pandemic.

As discussed before, the EHL Board is working on a plan to grow the EHL in terms of participation, broadcast profile and fan engagement. It is the Board’s ambition to come forward with the definitive new format for the 2023/24 season.

Further updates in this regard will be announced in the upcoming period.

Chairman of the EHL Board, Hans Erik Tuijt, said: “Our finals this Easter have seen the welcome return of fans to the EHL. We look forward to next season withthe best Men’s and Women’s European club teams from across the continent battling it out to be titled champions of Europe! We will continue to work with our partners to grow the EHL.”

European Hockey Federation President Marijke Fleuren added: “We have seen the fan-passion for the EHL reignited this week after so long and it has been joyful to see new clubs and new sets of supporters making their mark on this stage. 

“Also, the U14 EHL boys and girls tournaments have proven to be a big success! A new generation of players is ready to take over!”
