Surbiton and Kampong shine on opening night

England’s Surbiton and SV Kampong produced dominant performances to advance to the ABN AMRO EHL Men’s KO8, getting past the challenges of Saint Germain and Uhlenhorst Mülheim respectively.

Surbiton picked up their biggest ever EHL win as they saw off an inconsistent Saint Germain who had lively spells but were picked off by their English counterparts, 7-2.

Two first quarter goals from Luke Taylor laid the base and they were 5-0 up at half-time to put the game out of sight. The Parisian club rallied but Surbiton were always in control from there on.

SV Kampong made it through to the last eight of the men’s Euro Hockey League as they dismissed Uhlenhorst Mülheim with a healthy win with both sides missing a couple of big name players.

After some early scares, the Dutch side stormed clear with Jip Janssen, Finn van Bijnen, Mats Gruter and Silas Lageman on the mark.

Surbiton now advance to the KO8 where they will come up against KHC Dragons on Friday, putting them one game from a first ever FINAL4 appearance.

Kampong, meanwhile, will face Rot-Weiss Köln in what will be their sixth meeting between the sides since 2013.

Day two will feature men’s KO8 fixtures between Club de Campo de Madrid and Austria’s SV Arminen at 14.45 (CET) and the evening meeting between Atlètic Terrassa and HC Blomenedaal, a repeat of the 2021 men’s GRAND FINAL, at 19.15 (CET).

Those matches take place either side of Saint Germain’s classification match with Uhlenhorst at 17.00 (CET)
