Kampong bounce back to claim fifth place

Men’s ABN AMRO EHL Ranking Cup

SV Arminen 1 (R Bele) SV Kampong 5 (B Kellerman 2, C Dobbelaar, J de Geus, J Janssen)

For a second successive day, SV Kampong came from a goal down to earn the win, earning them fifth place ranking points with SV Arminen taking points for ninth overall.

The second quarter was the turning point with three goals in quick succession making the difference. The Austrian side produced an excellent defensive effort in the early stages and went 1-0 ahead courtesy of a counter-attack, kick-started by Dominic Uher’s interception, feeding Robert Bele who raced through and slipped home.

They remained in front until the 20th minute when Mateusz Szymczyk and his post defender did well to clear a Jip Janssen drag. But Robbert Kemperman quickly picked up the long corner and slipped the ball to Jonas de Geus whose first time shot left the goalkeeper no chance.

Bjorn Kellerman was credited with his first of the day when his reverse-stick shot got a lucky bounce off a defender to make it 2-1. Caspar Dobbelaar got his first EHL goal before half-time arrived, sticking out a stick to redirect Silas Lageman’s ball home.

It remained that way through the third quarter with before Kampong moved further clear early in the fourth quarter. Again, it was Kellerman on the mark, Kemperman feeding him on the left and he found a perfect reverse-stick angle to make it 4-1.

And Janssen completed the win with three minutes remaining from the penalty spot, just getting it over the line despite Szymczyk’s strong effort to keep it out.
