Stroitel Brest win Belarus men’s Super Cup

SC Stroitel Brest won last weekend’s curtain-raiser to the Belarussian men’s season as they got the best of HC Minsk 2-1 in Baranovichi.

While Stroitel were delayed arriving at the venue – unlike their Minsk counterparts who stayed in situ the night before – it was the Brest side who got off to a storming start with two goals in the first 17 minutes via Stepanets and Yegoschenkov.

The latter was especially beautiful, coming from an acute angle, the forward hitting the apex of the goal.

Minsk went close to a third but goalkeeper Alexey Romanishkin kept out a corner and they had a lifeline when Alexey Guchok pulled one back before half-time.

But try as Minsk might, with Vlad Belousov’s speed and power a feature, along with Vlad Kochkin’s trickery and Aliaksandr Goncharov’s skills, they could not break through the charmed Stroitel defences.
