HGC prevented Amsterdam doing an ABMN AMRO Cup double as Alan Forsyth’s goal two minutes from the end decided a 4-3 thriller in the final.
The Scottish striker netted a hat trick in the semi-final win over Oranje-Rood, showing his scoring credentials in impressive fashion.
Trent Mitton had given Amsterdam a 2-0 lead and while Kenta Tanaka got one back for Paul van Ass’s side, Brent van Bijnen extended the lead to 3-1.
Goals from Steijn van Heijningen and Gordon Johnston – another newcomer, from Canada – ensured that the teams entered the final quarter level.
For a long time, the duel seemed to be heading for shoot-outs, but Forsyth gave HGC the victory and, with it, the tournament win which was the Wassenaar club’s first success in the competition.
Bloemendaal finished third with a 2-1 win over Oranje-Rood while SV Kampong were 6-2 winners over Klein Zwitserland to finish in fifth.
