ABN AMRO Cup group stages throw up surprise semi-finalists

Victoria will play Klein Zwitserland while AH&BC Amsterdam are up against SCHC in the semi-finals of the ABN AMRO Cup, the traditional curtain-raiser for the Dutch club season.

Den Bosch, the reigning Hoofdklasse and EHL champions were knocked out in Pool 1 where they fell to Oranje-Rood – eventual group winners – in a shoot-out and only edged out Victoria via the same method after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Victoria’s 1-0 win over Oranje Rood meant they topped the table and advance to a semi-final against KZ who swept to Pool 4 success with 1-0 wins over hdm and HGC.

Amsterdam were the winners of Pool 2 with a shoot-out win against Hurley followed by a 2-0 success against SV Kampong.

Amsterdam will face SCHC in the semi-finals; the Bilthoven club won 3-0 against Bloemendaal and saw off Pinoké in a shoot-out.

On the men’s side, Oranje Rood won Pool 1 with Den Bosch coming second. Pool 2 was topped by AH&BC Amsterdam with SV Kampong coming in second.

Bloemendaal made it through from Pool 3 in Athena with a 3-2 win over Pinoké and 2-0 against Hurley. Pinoké took second spot.

And in Pool 4, HGC produced the most comfortable passage to the last eight, beating Klein Zwitserland 2-0 and HC Rotterdam 4-0.
