EHL confirms Covid-19 protocols for FINAL4

As the EHL FINAL4 gets underway in Amsterdam today, the EHL has confirmed the Covid-19 guidelines which will guide the competition at the Wagener Stadium.

Hans Erik Tuijt, Chair of the EHL Board said “We are delighted to get the FINAL4 EHL women and men underway in these difficult ‘covid times’.

“Our primary concern from the outset is and will be for the duration of the event the safety of the players, team staff, officials, volunteers and organisation. As a result, the teams have accepted very strict parameters in the lead up to and during the event.”

These include:

  • Covid-19 General – The EHF has produced Covid-19 Guidelines which you can find on the EHF website. (need to add link)
  • Teams consist of a maximum of 30 persons (players and staff included).
  • Teams stay in the EHL Bubble in the designated hotels.
  • No replacements are allowed from outside the Bubble even if players/staff are injured / test positive for covid and must leave the bubble
  • Teams and officials have all arrived with negative  PCR tests and will take rapid testing every day they are active in the event.
  • The EHF will decide when a team needs to drop out of the event if they have a number of positive tests.
  • The advised number is 4 out of the total number of the accredited Players and Staff in their Team EHL Bubble.
  • Should there be 3 or fewer positive test results, those players or staff must be isolated from the group, but the team’s matches can continue, subject to the TD, the team managers, and the EHF Competitions Manager/Director General/COVID-19 Panel reviewing any additional concerns

Hans Erik Tuijt, summed up by saying “We are grateful to the teams and their management for their full co-operation. We realise that perhaps these parameters seem strict, but we have been extremely fortunate to have been given the green light to go ahead with the EHL FINAL4 by the Dutch authorities and for the teams and officials that are travelling to have also received exemptions to travel to this elite event.

“We are dependent on everyone involved in doing their utmost to ensure that we keep everyone safe and have a really fantastic, equally amazing event!”
