Surbiton’s teams looking good for EHL FINAL8 with perfect nine wins from nine

Surbiton’s men and women ran up their ninth win a piece over the weekend to complete the first half of their English league campaigns with a perfect record as both look in good shape for their EHL FINAL8 challenge.

The men picked up two wins over the weekend against other teams in the top four. On Saturday, they produced an excellent performance to win 8-4 at home against Hampstead and Westminster.

Alan Forsyth, Luke Taylor and Ben Boon netted two goals each for the home side while David Goodfield and James Royce scored the others. Rupert Shipperley, Matt Guise Brown (2) and Chris Cargo were the goal scorers for Hampstead & Westminster.

And on Sunday Surbiton picked up another three points, this time via a 2-1 win at second-placed Wimbledon, helping them to build a six-point lead at the top of the table.

Wimbledon did however pick up three points on Saturday with a 4-3 victory at East Grinstead. Ed Horler found the net three times and Ben Francis hit the winner for Wimbledon.

Newcomers Old Georgians are in third place on 20 points with Hampstead & Westminster on 18. There will be three more rounds of matches before the English league enters its winter break.

In the women’s competition, Leaders Surbiton made it nine wins in nine matches so far this season with a 3-1 victory over second-placed Hampstead & Westminster.

Erica Sanders scored twice for Surbiton, while Giselle Ansley added the other. Lily Owsley pulled one back for Hampstead & Westminster, but it wasn’t enough. The results puts them eight points clear of the chasing pack at the halfway stage.

East Grinstead continued their great run of form, notching up their fourth straight victory. The win moves them up to third in the table, with Sophie Bray scoring twice while their others came from Chloe Brown and Hannah Cozens. Zoe Shipperley scored Buckingham’s only goal.
