Lisnagarvey set themselves apart in Irish men’s league

Lisnagarvey produced yet another imperious performance as they beat their nearest rivals UCD 5-1, making it four wins from four and building a three-point lead at the head of the Irish men’s EY Hockey League.

Early goals from Troy Chambers and Johnny Lynch saw them lead from the front and while Guy Sarratt got one back before half-time, James Corry ensured they would trail 3-1 at the big break.

Corner goals from James Lorimer (pictured) and Andy Williamson closed out a comprehensive final outcome, ending the students perfect start to the campaign.

Three Rock Rovers, meanwhile, beat Annadale 9-1 with two goals each from Ross Canning, Evan Jennings and Sam Grace.

The women’s competition, meanwhile, started on Saturday. Lucy McKee’s single goal earned reigning champions Pegasus’s much-changed side a winning start to the new season as they edged out Railway Union 1-0.

It was a lovely piece of work, weaving out of traffic in the circle before striking home in the 42nd minute for the only goal.

Pembroke, meanwhile, grabbed a 69th minute winner via Aisling Naughton to beat last season’s runners-up 3-2 at Serpentine Avenue.

The Dublin 4 side had led twice already, Orla Macken and Eanna Horan netting only for Loreto to reply from Niamh Small and Chirstina Hamill for 2-2 deep into the second half before the late clinching goal.
