Player Profile: Moritz Fürste

POSITION: Midfielder

NATIONALITY:
German

Germany international Moritz Fürste, 28, is rapidly becoming
one of the most decorated players in the game. The talismanic midfielder has
won every major international prize that the sport has to offer, with two
Olympic Gold medals (Beijing 2008 / London 2012), one outdoor World Cup
(Monchengladbach 2006), two indoor World Cups (Vienna 2007 / Poznan 2011) and
one Champions Trophy (Kuala Lumpur 2007). His brilliance on the field resulted in
him being voted as the International Hockey Federation’s Player of the Year for
2012 – one of the few prizes that had eluded him after many years of making the
shortlist.

Mo has been one of the superstars of the Euro Hockey League
ever since the first edition of the tournament in 2007, winning an incredible
three EHL titles with UHC Hamburg (2008 / 2010 / 2012) as well as two ABN AMRO
Most Valuable Player awards.  This
season, he will be aiming to add a fourth EHL title to his collection wearing
the colours of Madrid’s Club de Campo, and few would bet against him doing it.
The year has already started well for him, having guided Ranchi Rhinos to glory
in the first ever Hockey India League before being named Hamburg’s Sportsman of
the Year for 2012. He is a player who is truly at the top of his game, and all
eyes will be on him at KO16 Amsterdam this weekend.
